Scope: The objective of the GEO-CRADLE event in Morocco was to analyze and discuss in detail the proposed refined scope of the pilot activity T4.3 (Access to Raw Material), on the basis of the gap analysis (WP3) and other inputs from partners; thus preparing the ground for the final decisions on their refined scope during the Project Meeting which will take place on 17 November in Limassol, Cyprus.
Bringing together local and regional in-situ network operators and Geological Surveys representatives, the event provided project partners and stakeholders with valuable knowledge on the identified regional EO capacities and skills, as well as the challenges in the domain of access to raw materials, and contributed to the refinement of the scope of the relevant GEO-CRADLE pilot activity that will focus on the access to raw materials in the regions of Balkans, Middle East and North Africa, to the extent that this can be supported by GEO, GEOSS, and Copernicus. The meetings were in line with the objectives of PanAfGeo, Copernicus (GMES and Africa), and the new GEO Energy and Minerals Societal Benefit Area.

Scope: The GEO-CRADLE meeting in Limassol, Cyprus, kindly hosted by the partner Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), will refine the scope of the pilots and conclude with their launch. The objective of the pilot activities is not to develop new science but to build on the integration of existing capacities (infrastructure, datasets, models, etc.) and skills within the relevant group of project partners that are involved towards the provision of improved EO Services in the Region of Interest. The pilots will span a period of 15 months, and the final results will be presented to relevant stakeholders (especially decision makers) in a dedicated workshop.

Scope: Taking place in Turkey's economic, cultural and historic center the event gathered diverse organizations along the data value-added service chain. From research to market, the event introduced the Copernicus Sentinel Data Hubs whilst showcasing GEO-CRADLE's project pilot results and user cases with the aim of highlighting cross-sector cooperation on transversal topics such as, water management, adaptation to climate change or food security, to name a few. The one-and-a-half-day workshop was also a great opportunity for both private and public stakeholders, to discuss transformational issues affecting the uptake and use of geo-information services. The round table discussions brought together confirmed operational users of EO services and data providers, as well as interested and potential users with the aim of promoting knowledge transfer and cross-sector fertilization of good practices. Furthermore, the event showcased innovation incubators and Horizon2020 funding opportunities for stakeholders interested to develop geo-information services.

Scope: GEO-CRADLE organized the 3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop on the uptake of GEO and Copernicus, with emphasis on Climate Change, Food Security and Water Extremes, Raw Materials and Solar Energy. Earth Observation (EO) data and services can support the informed implementation of numerous policies, help in addressing key societal challenges, contribute to achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and boost the EU economy’s competitiveness and growth. The importance of sustained EO data and innovative EO-based services becomes even greater in a period marked by the advent of Big Data – spearheaded by Copernicus free, full and open data policy, and the emergence of new business models. In this context, GEO-CRADLE has set out to develop a roadmap for the improved implementation of GEO/GEOSS and the increased uptake of Copernicus in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa.
In this context, the 3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop, organized by GEO-CRADLE, offered a prime opportunity for key players across the EO value chain (i.e. institutions, industry, users) to share their vision on long-term actions that will help to maximize the impact of EO and leverage EU investments.

Scope: The workshop aimed to demonstrate the value of Earth observation data to climate-resilient development through a series of presentations, discussions, and hands-on training for stakeholders and colleagues form the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and their client states.
During the workshop the EO4SD Climate Resilience cluster:
• Provided valuable insights into how IFIs and their client states can use Earth observation data to support climate-resilient development;
• Discussed stakeholder needs and requirements, especially with regards to projects on the African continent;
• Provided applicable and useful information about Copernicus Sentinel data and services, which offers full, free and open access;
• Showcased the proposed services of the EO4SD Climate Resilience cluster and how they can be used (e.g. drought monitoring, wetland monitoring, ecosystem evaluation, flooding, soil erosion, etc.);
• Offered a training session about the EO4SD Climate Resilience platform, including downloading data, visualizing and creating customized products (e.g. water quality indexes, vegetation indexes, etc.).
