Jop opening: Project Manager - Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST)

Overview
The Greek National Operations Center for Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), part of the Operational Unit BEYOND/IAASARS of the National Observatory of Athens, is seeking a highly motivated Project Manager to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in managing both the administrative aspects of our SST initiatives and leading proposal development for new research funding opportunities.
Responsibilities
Project Administration
- Manage the day-to-day administrative aspects of SST projects, including financial monitoring, reporting, and documentation
- Coordinate communication with EU SST partners, European Commission contacts, and other stakeholders
- Track project timelines, deliverables, and milestones to ensure compliance with EU regulations and funding requirements
- Prepare and submit progress reports, financial statements, and other required documentation for EU-funded projects
- Support budget planning, resource allocation, and financial management of SST initiatives
- Ensure effective knowledge management and information sharing across project teams
Research Proposal Development
- Lead the identification and evaluation of funding opportunities from ESA, EU Horizon Europe, and national sources related to SST, Space Situational Awareness, and Space Traffic Management
- Coordinate proposal writing, organize contributions from technical experts, and manage proposal submission processes
- Build and maintain relationships with potential project partners across Europe, including academic institutions, research centers, and industry
Qualifications
Essential (we value candidates who demonstrate some of the below)
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Space Engineering, Space Science, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project management, preferably in research, aerospace, or European-funded projects
- Demonstrated success in proposal development and grant acquisition
- Experience with EU funding mechanisms and reporting requirements
- Strong financial management skills, including budget development and tracking
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Nice to have
- Knowledge of European Space Policy and Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) domain
- Experience in space research, space operations, or related technical fields
- Previous involvement with EU-funded research projects, especially in space or related domains
- Experience with Horizon Europe, ESA, or other space-related funding programs
- Familiarity with agile project management methodologies
