BEYOND at the GEO Global Forum 2025 

 

Rome, May 9, 2025The BEYOND Centre, as a committed EuroGEO partner, wrapped up a strong and impactful presence at the GEO Global Forum 2025, held in Rome, where it led three dynamic sessions hosted at the EU Booth. During the Sessions,BEYOND played a pivotal role in the conversation on how Earth Observation (EO) is shaping informed, data-driven decisions across critical sectors.

From disaster resilience and public health to skills development and EO market engagement, BEYOND’s contributions underscored the transformative potential of EO technologies in building a more sustainable and resilient world.

Tuesday, 6 May – Presentations and Round Table

The first day featured a presentation session led by Haris Kontoes, Research Director at IAASARS/NOA and EuroGEO Action Groups Coordinator. During this session, Alexia Tsouni, Research Associate at BEYOND Centre, presented the GEO-CRADLE Enabling Mechanism, highlighting EuroGEO’s essential role within the broader GEO framework. All the presentations of the session attracted the interest of the EU Booth visitors with theirinsights into how EO supports resilience-building by integrating technologies of the sector into user-oriented and co-designed services. 

In the afternoon, a lively round table titled "Challenges in Engaging Earth Observation Communities: Technology and Skills Development" brought together stakeholders to examine barriers and opportunities in EO community engagement. The discussion emphasized the growing need for talent cultivation, targeted training, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure EO’s broad-based impact.

Thursday, 8 May – Bridging Research and Market

Thisround table discussion with BEYOND's participation focusing on "Research to Market"gathered voices from both the research and industry spheres to explore how to accelerate the uptake of EO innovations in real-world applications. It reinforced the strategic importance of EuroGEO Action Groups in connecting cutting-edge EO research with market-ready solutions.
