Highlighting EuroGEO’s Contribution to GEO and its Role in supporting the GEO-CRADLE Enabling Mechanism at the UN-SPIDER RSO Meeting

EuroGEO’s impactful contribution to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and its vital role in supporting the GEO-CRADLE enabling mechanism for capacity building and Earth Observation-based services across the EMMENA, Africa, and Pacific Asia regions was highlighted at the virtual meeting of the Regional Support Offices of UN-SPIDER (the UN Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response) on April 8th 2025.

UN-SPIDER is one of the key new EO communities engaged in GEO-CRADLE in the Post-2025 GEO Work Programme, together with IEEE-GRSS, GEO Indigenous Alliance, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), Digital Earth Africa, Digital Earth Pacific, ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, EARSC, EDGE and Healthsites.

The work coordinated by Dr. Haris Kontoes, Research Director at IAASARS/NOA, Principal Investigator of GEO-GRADLE and leader of the Greece Regional Support Office (https://www.un-spider.org/network/regional-support-offices/greece-regional-support-office) was highlighted by Alexia Tsouni, Research Associate at BEYOND Centre of IAASARS/NOA, a EuroGEO partner.

EuroGEO’s contributions to GEO and its ongoing work through initiatives like GEO CRADLE underscore the importance of international collaboration and capacity building in advancing Earth observation-based solutions to address critical global challenges.
