The Operational Unit BEYOND Center for Earth Observation Research and Satellite Remote Sensing at the National Observatory of Athens is seeking to hire a highly skilled and motivated Expert on Floods to join our team, contributing to cutting-edge applied research for the services of FloodHUB http://beyond-eocenter.eu/index.php/web-services/floodhub.
Our team focuses on innovative approaches to address challenges related to floods modelling, mapping, monitoring, early warning, forecasting and mitigation, integrating data from the EU Copernicus program, and other sources.

Responsibilities:
- Contribution to floods modelling, mapping, monitoring, early warning, forecasting and mitigation, integrating Earth Observation data from the EU Copernicus program as well as other data sources.
- Collaboration with Project Managers of the Unit towards advancing the quality and timeliness of project deliveries if/where possible.
- Participation in transfer of knowledge activities of BEYOND.
- Contribution to proposal writing, project realisation, and deliverable preparation.
- Preparation of research papers and contribution to the dissemination of findings.
- Production of clear and concise documentation of defined procedures and regular updates to facilitate knowledge sharing and seamless team collaboration inside the Unit.
- Being an integral part of our tech-minded team, engaging in knowledge sharing, brainstorming, and contributing to the collective growth and success of the Unit.
- Occasional travel for project meetings, presentations and international collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Relevant PhD, preferably from the Faculty of Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in floods modelling (with HEC-RAS and/or other models), mapping, monitoring, early warning, forecasting and mitigation.
- Demonstrated experience in GIS & Remote Sensing for floods mapping.
- At least 15 years of relevant work experience.
- Good knowledge of at least one programming languages like Python, R or MATLAB.
- Ability to write technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical mindset and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- English language proficiency preferably at C2 level, both written and spoken.
