Active fires map in Lebanon and Syria produced by the FireHub service of BEYOND/NOA on 16/10/2019, following the processing of VIIRS images of NOAA and SUOMMI satellites from 13/10/2019 to today 16/10/2019, received at NOA’s Satellite Antenna Ground Station installed in Penteli, Athens, Greece. Τhe massive forest fires (more than 100 erupted only in Lebanon) have been described as the worst in decades, reaching houses and institutions and burning forests home to natural biodiversity. There are 2 fatalities and more than 70 people injured so far. The disaster was caused by dry weather, unusually high temperatures, and strong winds. More details will be provided soon.
