Research Associate | Flood Risk

Stavroula Sigourou received her diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering (2013) from the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh).

She also holds a MSc in Ecological water quality and management at a river basin level (WFD 2000/60/EC), which is an Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Study Program between the Schools of Biology, Geology & Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2015) and four years later in 2019 she received a MSc in Water Resources Science and Technology from the School of Civil Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
From 2014 - 2020 she was occupied as an engineer in private consulting and engineering firms in Greece with cadastre and surveying projects and mostly with water management and GIS projects, such as development of geodatabases for river basins and water distribution networks, river arrangements studies, hydraulic modeling of a water distribution network, hydrological and hydraulic modelling of streams for urban and rural areas flood forecasting and protection.
Moreover, during her master studies, she participated in conferences, research projects and case studies focusing on GIS, ecological water quality in streams with holistic river basin approach, trends in hydrometeorogical time series parameters compared with land use change, development of a methodology of prevention and management of pipe breaks in a water supply network.
From April 2020, Stavroula has been working as a research associate in the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens in the field of floods forecasting focusing on hydrological and hydraulic modelling, GIS, mapping and early warning.
